Anya Clowers, RN today-- and on her first international flight (1976)
Travel Expert Anya Clowers, RN understands the complexities of traveling with kids. From safety
requirements to health needs, she offers parents practical resources to ease the burden of
parenting at 37,000 feet while enjoying the fascinating experience of travel with young children.
Professionally:
Travel Expert: With over 35 years and 400,000+ miles of air travel experience, Anya's career as a travel expert has a solid foundation. Her unique role as a liaison between medical experts and the travel industry allows her to contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of products or services valuable to niche travelers. As a Niche Travel Specialist, she is able to identify potential needs and provide practical solutions (Products Worth Packing) for travelers dealing with illness, hunger, discomfort, anxiety, boredom, irritation, or fear. Anya and her work have been quoted, interviewed, or praised by Good Morning America, USA Today's Harriet Baskas, NTSB's Deborah Hersman, European Travel Expert Rick Steves, The Today Show's Peter Greenberg, and many flight attendants and traveling parents.
Registered Nurse: A post-surgical specialist, Anya has worked as a registered nurse at the elite facilities of Mayo Clinic Medical Center and Stanford University Hospital. From clinical research to a head/neck cancer nurse, she has taken care of patients from all over the world in extreme circumstances. Anya observed it was during these trying times that patients
experienced the most comfort and relief when the small, practical details of bedside care were addressed.
Commuting monthly cross country from her residence in California to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, she
quickly noticed the same to be true regarding comfort and flying. Illness, flight delays, and all the unpredictable
aspects of airplane travel were easier to deal with when the small, practical details were addressed.
Author: Anya recognized the need for practical education for travelers of all ages. Pregnant in 2003,
she began researching the best products and tips for family travelers.
With the help of over 20 travel experts (with a combined 450 years of experience),
Anya wrote the book Jet With Kids for parents traveling with young children. The book was written to provide practical information to increase the quality of travel for parents, children, and those sharing an airplane cabin with them.
Personally:
Frequent Flier & Traveling Parent: Anya writes honestly and from the heart, many times using personal experience to
complement her professional research. She has flown as the upgraded business
traveler, the single and solo traveler, the pre-parent honeymooner traveler, and most recently the traveler with the "frequent flier in training"- her son
as the infant, toddler, preschooler, and now, school age child (who has traveled to 15 countries before kindergarten!).
She understands what it feels like to sweat while attempting to securely install a bulky 20 lb. car seat in an airplane seat while
keeping track of her wandering toddler. She has also flown with ear pain and understands the
excruciating pain congestion can cause when descending. Her research has led her to the 1 lb. alternative to those bulky
car seats and the prescription device that eliminates ear pain and pressure. She shares her findings in various outlets:
- Blog: The Jet With Kids Blog is filled
with lessons learned, Products Worth Packing, and memories of a lifetime.
- Website: The Jet With Kids Website offers parents practical tools, valuable resources,
and tips for flying with children.
- Newsletter: The Jet With Kids free newsletter contains more valuable tips, vendor
discounts, and hundreds of dollars in product giveaways.
- Travel Seminar: A free class to prepare niche travelers how to pack peace of mind and travel self-sufficiently. Self-sufficient travel is packing peace of mind as the foundation of every trip.
Professional research combined with a personal touch is a powerful combination.
Anya Clowers, RN is a child-safety and parent-sanity advocate. She believes that
by preparing the whole family for travel, parents can turn the "burden" of travel
into wonderful memories of a lifetime.
The first and last impression of a trip is often the flight process. Prepare to enjoy!
