August 15, 2008Starting Aug. 16, TSA will allow laptops to remain in bags meeting new ‘checkpoint friendly’ guidelines. Not all laptop bags are ‘checkpoint friendly’(see images below).

I was happy to read about these changes in airport security allowing me to leave my laptop inside the bag.  True, not inside the backpack – but one less bag to open means more time to focus on what is important- my son and getting through security with our sanity.  AND it means that there is a chance airport security may be less inconvenient (and more effective) in the future. I am not holding my breath on this – but every little bit helps.

Actually, my son has a play laptop that he “works” on next to me some days.  Since it is a real computer (one we thought didn’t work anymore but my 4 year old resurrected) and not a children’s toy, it means it doesn’t accompany us when we travel – since that also would mean one extra computer to take out of the bag at security! He hasn’t asked to take it along YET but now at least if we ever do bring his “work” along – we can leave it in the bag!
