Airports are providing more amenities to the traveler -but they still have a long way to go. I recently spoke with an employee at the Information desk in the Las Vegas airport. After we discussed some of the interesting things she sees in a day of work, I asked her what is most common for travelers to ask. She didn’t even hesitate when replying that people in general are just not prepared to travel.
For instance, she stated that some parents don’t bring baby food for their children if they are flying on short flights – or some even on long flights. Unprepared for delays, cancellations, or long flights, she was unsure of who these parents thought were going to provide food for the child.
I enjoy looking through airport stores to see what type of supplies they do provide. I noticed in one children’s store that there was a pack of diapers. However, with 3 diapers in the small, thin pack – there was no way that the diapers were anywhere near “Premium” as they were inappropriately labeled.
They also had a few baby bottles – the very cheap plastic type that I am pretty sure have not been cleaned since coming from the factory and most likely weren’t the safest bottles in terms of plastic.
Underwear for kids? Pull up type diapers? Infant/newborn/chunky/petite – babies are not “one size fits all” and yet there was only one pack of these premium diapers available in this particular airport shop. And the other shops? No baby supplies at all.
A reminder that the carry- on luggage is not for your clothes. It is for supplies that the entire family may need for the next 24 hours. Assume your luggage won’t arrive. Assume that the flight may be delayed – give yourself extra time and definitely pack more food, diapers, and most importantly fluids than you would need during the duration of the flight.
Remember – the fight is the First and Last Impression of your trip. Prepare ahead for life on the go by not relying on the airline or airports for any necessary supplies (Due to airport security, you cannot bring water to the airport – buy this once you are past security).
