Books to prepare kids for travel destination

by Anya Clowers, RN

While visiting the Air and Space Museum gift shop in Washington D.C., I noticed a few books worth noting when traveling with kids. What better way to prepare children for what’s ahead than to read books with their favorite characters also visiting the same destination? My time was short in the gift shop, but I did manage to snap a few photos of these relevant books for Washington D.C.:

Want to find kids books for your upcoming destination before the trip begins? A visit to the local library, a call or email to the destination tourist office, or a search on Amazon will help get the process started. Read the books while at home to little travelers and then remember to bring them along on the trip. It’s fantastic for kids to see a book come to life!  A “tour” at kids level of understanding may help to make the trip more interesting for all.

All of the books mentioned above are available through Amazon:

Don’t forget books that teach about subjects relevant to travel destination topics. A visit to the Air and Space Museum was complemented by this book sold in their gift shop:

Toys also are great for learning. This space shuttle was perfect for talking about things we saw that day at the museum.

I will try to post some books for the most popular travel destinations soon. However, don’t rule out the not so popular places though, as some authors will write about their home or favorite travel destination.
