Emergency Phone Numbers for International TravelÂ
When traveling internationally, write down the emergency number
for each country you will travel through. Dialing 911 is not a universal call for help.
Note that in some countries the number for police, ambulance, and fire
may be different. For instance, in Germany, the number for
fire and ambulance (Krankenwagen) is 112, while the number
for the police is 110.Â
Places like Belgium have separate numbers when calling from
land lines (101) versus cell phones (112). Keep in mind that it is
usually best to call from a land line since your call from a cell
phone may be routed by area code of the cell phone rather than your
location at the time of the emergency call.
