TALK to little ones, remain calm (they pick up on anxiety) and involve them at an age appropriate level. Acknowledge all passengers seated nearby with a smile and a bag of candy for their understanding never hurts! However, remember… your child is your responsibility and should not affect others.
What about entertainment for parents during the long flight? Nope – if there is a quiet moment, breathe deeply, rest, and take a photo of your child behaving wonderfully in flight. Otherwise, remain one step ahead of them at all times and plan ahead for bathroom needs, food, entertainment, and rest.
And I never said I don’t use my iPhone in every possible entertaining way when flying with my son! Music, videos, photos, camera, maps, books, games, compass, flashlight, etc. No more bulky DVD player or CD player. The iPhone is awesome for ALL!
*Even if a parent normally doesn’t allow a child to watch tv or videos, travel is an exception to the rule. A little exposure to multi-media is better than stressed out parents swearing they will never travel again with kids!
