When searching for family movie reviews, it is advisable not to rely on the movie rating system of airlines to provide  appropriate recommendations!
Have you ever been on a flight, chosen not to watch the featured film, and yet found your eyes had no where else to go than to the flashing overhead screen in front of you? Have you ever been shocked at what is playing when you consider the wide variety of passengers on board?
I know that even before I was a parent, I was frustrated that the violent scenes in movies were lighting up the dark cabin, naturally drawing my eyes to the screen in front of us all. I have always avoided watching violent films. As a nurse, I had seen too much and knew that people with deep psychological issues did exist and accidents, murders, rapes, and abuse were reality in many people’s lives. I know the difference between reality and a movie, but the violence upset me either way. I also knew that what people watch DOES have an impact on how they think and that the subconscious mind was a lot more powerful than we like to think.
So when I became a parent, I was even more upset that these violently graphic scenes were on display for all eyes to see – no matter the age, maturity, and without parental consent.Â
I was happy to find that people have spoken out. The result is the “Family Friendly Flights Act of 2007“. They are not asking airlines to only show G rated films or to entertain kids. Read here what this act is all about. To sign the petition, click here.
There are many things that the airline movie rating system is lacking; yet we are not saying that airline movies need to be animated, rated as a children’s movie, or two thumbs up in family movie reviews.Â
Just back to basic respect for all passengers on board!
