On our amazing 8+month tour around the world, I was delighted to accomplish a life-long goal to fly with Singapore Airlines. Consistently ranked as one of the best airlines in the world, a flight on Singapore Airlines was a bucket list item accomplished for me and a joy to experience for my entire family.
Although we had traveled several times previously to Singapore, this world tour was our first time as passengers on the premium airline.

Look for future coverage of my bucket list experience on Singapore Airlines (and the 40 planned hours we spent in Singapore’s AMAZING Changi Airport) to be posted soon on JetWithComfort.com.
This post is all about my son’s experience meeting the iconic “Singapore Girls” and experiencing aviation as a passenger on Singapore Airlines. (To read about the connection between Singapore Girls and San Francisco (our local city)- read my article here.)

As we boarded the evening flight to Singapore from the hot, dry climate of Dubai, we were greeted by a smiling “Singapore Girl” who offered us a chilled, lightly scented towel.
The towel was oh-so-refreshing and my son literally said, “Ahhhh” while wiping his face and hands.

It was a December flight and with the heat of Dubai, it was easy to forget about the upcoming Christmas holiday season. This was not a good thing in a young boy’s mind!
So the simple holiday decorations on the plane were appreciated even more than normal by this 7 year old passenger! (Up to that point he wasn’t convinced we would remember to celebrate if not frequently reminded!)

We flew several flights on Singapore Airlines as we toured through AsiaPac and each time the cool towels and holiday decorations were appreciated!

A long international flight sitting in a festive environment makes a more pleasant environment for passengers of all ages. The airline cabin and lavatories were kept clean throughout the flight.
Singapore Airlines was awarded the Best Economy Class at the World Airline Awards as well as Best Economy Class Catering Award! My son was very happy with his “Yummy” selections…

A small sticker indicating a special child’s meal had been ordered was placed on the top of my son’s seat early on in the flight while everyone was awake. This eliminated any confusion during meal time. His meal was served first and always with a smile. The first meal from Dubai was served in this little yellow “lunch” box – which he still uses.

Breakfast was scrambled eggs, sausage, tomatoes, broccoli, bread/butter/jam, muffin, fruit, juice, milk, and a box of cereal! A big breakfast for a growing boy!
The meals were “Yummy!” and Singapore Airlines offers an online option to select the child’s main dish up to 24 hours prior to the flight. To see more of the Singapore Airlines’ “Yummy!” meal selections for children age 2-11, click here.
Disclosure: To be honest, I did not realize until now that my son could have selected his meal choice (main dish) online up until 24 hours before flight time. On a 8 month trip with over 25 flights around the world, well, there just wasn’t enough time to remember to do everything! But, the selection was made for him by the airline- and it all turned out well. I guess we will just have to book more flights on Singapore Airlines to try this feature out!

When dinner was finished on the flight from Dubai, my son was delighted to discover there was frozen, delicious dessert for everyone!

He was well cared for on each flight. Hydration, entertainment, food, and even a Travel Monopoly game was provided for him on the flights!

Special child-size, colorful headphones were provided on each flight for the young travelers. I had to smile when I noticed the mother in the seat behind wearing the kids’ headphones when her son fell asleep!

After dinner, my son wrapped up in a blanket and relaxed with some inflight entertainment.

The inflight entertainment had a special kids section including movies, tv shows, music, radio, and a games option.

Soon it was time to hang up the headphones and go to sleep… (he was fortunate a couple flights to have an empty seat to stretch out on!)

Although on future flights, he was comfy enough to get some good sleep in only one seat cushioned with a soft pillow and blanket!
Singapore is a fascinating destination to fly into. The shipping presence that greets all flights into Changi airport is simply amazing – and a wonderful sight to see for a child (and adult!).

Arriving into Singapore’s Changi Airport, my son was ecstatic to discover Changi does everything on a grand scale- including holiday decorations involving Angry Birds!

I was grateful on so many levels to Singapore Airlines and Changi Airport for helping to make our world tour transition a smooth one when transitioning from Europe and the Middle East over to AsiaPac.

Flying comfortably through the night, we arrived into Changi for a few hour layover before catching another flight on Singapore Airlines to Bali.
The services and amenities offered by both Singapore Airlines and Changi airport are a parent’s dream when flying internationally with children.
Beginning with the very well marked stroller collection sign on the jetway… (there were many international flights in the past where I have had to search for the stroller collection point – often while carrying a sleeping child and our belongings).

In fact, I began to wonder if it were even possible to take advantage of all Changi had to offer while in transit.

About 3 months after these first flights on Singapore Airlines and my son’s first visit to Changi, I was able to arrange a 40 hour stay IN the Changi airport and explore in depth this wonderful “destination” airport.

I was excited to really get to know Changi, a top ranked airport- home to Singapore Airlines, the top ranked airline!

The airport experience was so amazing, it ranks as a highlight of our 8 month world tour! (Imagine saying that about any other airport – 40 hours is a long time in almost any airport!)
For family travelers, Singapore’s Changi airport is amazing with kid-friendly activities (think swimming pool, 2-story butterfly gardens, modern gaming rooms, fantastic toy stores and 4 story slides) and parent- friendly amenities (think clean, modern nursing rooms, family zones, complimentary name brand strollers, etc.)

But more on our experience at Changi airport in later articles… this post is about the amazing airline that calls Changi “home”.
The Singapore Airlines flight crew had fun with us and as we were saying our good-byes, told him to try out the comfy seats up front… (I then told him not to get used to that level of comfort!)

My son enjoyed flying with Singapore Airlines as well as waking up in the morning to a front row view of the Singapore Airlines jet outside his window! (Transit Hotel Changi Airport)

Everything aviation in Singapore is done efficiently, professionally, and with a smile. Customer service and amenities are top notch and really increase the quality of travel for all ages.
When flying to Asia (or anyplace international) with children, the length of the flights, airline service, and connecting airports are important to consider.
Both Singapore Airlines and Changi airport understand service and amenities that make a difference when traveling with children.
It’s not surprising the sign below has a very happy child (and a smiling Singaporean) in it!

As the sun rose upon our initial arrival into Singapore, we were grateful for a fantastic flight and the kindness and professionalism of the Singapore Airlines flight crew.
Jet with Kids boy meeting Singapore Girl was a great experience for all (even with some jet lag).

But there’s really nothing like meeting a real Singapore Girl though…

Welcome to Singapore!
