International Stop #2 on our 8 month world tour: Deutschland!
We were delighted to be back in Germany, yet tired from a late night flight into Frankfurt from Iceland. It was like Christmas eve for us, because the next morning we would pick up our motorhome rental – our home for the next 5 weeks!
The DRM motorhome rental depot was near to the Frankfurt airport and I was happy to be staying at a hotel only a short drive from the airport and then only a short walk the next morning to the camper depot. A centrally located Accor brand hotel was a perfect fit for our needs on “camper-eve”.
For this special night, we were invited to enjoy the convenience and comfort of the Accor hotels with a short stay at the Mercure Hotel Frankfurt Airport. (I was interested in experiencing the Accor brand as I have seen their hotels all over Europe – and they are often located in fantastically central locations!) I have found location to be a very important factor when selecting hotels while traveling internationally and with a child.

The Mercure Hotel Frankfurt Airport is a short drive (1.9miles) from the Frankfurt Airport. A free hotel shuttle schedule shows hourly departures and pickups between the hotel and Frankfurt airport. Because our flight arrived late after a delay, we were unable to use the shuttle services as the last shuttle was done for the day.

TIP: if your flight is delayed and you arrive after the last shuttle (like I did), hail a taxi. Be aware that like in any airport location, the taxi drivers prefer the longer distance and may not be quite so happy to take you to the hotel. They are not allowed to refuse the route and if you have any problems with them, contact the head taxi supervisor at the airport or let the hotel manager know of any issues. Make sure to write down the taxi phone number and license plate of the taxi.
Managed by Herr Thomas Droescher, Mercure Hotel Frankfurt Airport has 150 recently renovated air conditioned rooms. Upon entering the hotel, look to the right to find a relaxing bar (the evening lights set the tone). The restaurant is at the end of the lobby.

The German beer garden setting complete with Bitburger beer umbrellas welcomed us to Germany in style!

The location near the airport is evident by the updated departure screen in the lobby. You will know you are in Europe by the exotic locations listed on the screen!

Business travelers will find all the day’s news with a variety of newspaper in different languages in the lobby where there are also two computers available for use.

The lobby is modern, yet inviting.

As invited guests of the Mercure, we were offered a family suite for our one night stay. A bedroom, short hall entryway, and a second room with sofa and rollaway bed gave us the extra space that is premium in European hotels. Family travelers are allowed 2 children (under age 12) to stay in the parent’s room for free and pets are allowed for 12Euro per night.

The rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable.

The rollaway was of course a rollaway and not as comfortable as the bed- but it worked well for us.

The small amenities found in the room were a nice surprise. I didn’t expect to find a Loofah for use in the shower! The shower had good water pressure and was clean.

The small fridge/mini bar was located in the cabinet under the tv and offered drinks for purchase.

A favorite amenity was the “fancy” (common in Europe) individual cup coffee makers with a choice of coffee and tea.

Arriving late on a hot and humid evening, we were delighted to see the indoor pool was still open. My son, husband, and I dropped our bags in our room and found our suits to enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool. Part of the fun was the late hour that we were swimming! The pool is located in the basement and therefore does not interfere with sleeping guests.

For those wanting to immediately partake in the European way of life, a relaxing sauna is conveniently located next to the pool. An adjacent fitness room is also available for those looking to exercise some of the travel day stress away.
We found the staff to be quick to respond to our request for additional pillows and friendly with smiles at the front desk. Herr Agustin Bergamo, the front office manager, was very kind and it was obvious he was passionate about guests enjoying their stay at the Mercure Hotel.

The morning of our departure from Mercure, we were able to store our luggage with the front desk (make sure to keep your ticket stubs). The friendly front desk also provided a map with directions to the DRM depot nearby where we were headed to pick up our motorhome.

Our stay at the Mercure was short, but thoroughly enjoyed. It was fantastic to be able to relax so quickly after arriving in Frankfurt, especially when we were droopy from the heat and weary from travel. We found Mercure Hotel to be in a great location, offer all the amenities we needed, and a nice introduction for our time in Germany.
Remember how I mentioned Accor hotels are in great locations? While touring the historical Porta Nigra Roman city gate in Trier, Germany, I turned around to admire the view of the city and guess what I saw?

A very centrally located Hotel Mercure! I noticed this simply because we were touring through with the motorhome and had a difficult time with parking near the historic old city. I envied those guests not only for their view of the 2000 year old Roman city gate, but for their easy access to all that Trier- a UNESCO World Heritage site- had to offer! This was not the only time Accor hotels were in astonishingly fantastic locations. Another Accor hotel we spotted was in Avignon, France- a great spot for tourists smack dab in the middle of the city center!
When looking for comfort through location and convenience, consider the Accor brand of hotels.
As part of the Jet With Kids/Jet With Comfort World Tour, we found the location, friendliness and convenience of the Mercure Hotel Frankfurt Airport to qualify as travel comfort worth noting!

Disclosure: We were invited to experience the comfort of Accor brand hotels on the JetWithKids/JetWithComfort World tour. As invited guests of the Hotel Mercure, our one night stay was complimentary. Reviews and commentary are based on a combination of professional and personal experience.
