Navigating Airport Security with Kids

One of the bigger hassles of flying during the Holidays is dealing with airport security. Understanding the rules and security process and how it affects wrapped presents, heavy jackets, crowded flights, amateur travelers – all of this can be intimidating to a family traveling with young children (and absolutely annoying to the expert business traveler in line behind the family!)

What helps? What should be avoided? What will make children cry – or allow them to view the experience as interesting – maybe even fun?

As with almost everything I write about, I contacted an expert on the topic to add to my tips for dealing with airport security. “Joe” is now in Upper Management at TSA – but for many years he worked directly with passengers all across the country (a dozen airport locations!). He is passionate about his role and maintaining the security (and sanity) of airline passengers.

I will write a series of blog posts on topics dealing with airport security and the Holidays – but first let’s start with a general overview of “Navigating Airport Security With Kids”
