Summer travel season is here!
Packing the swimsuit, sunscreen, snorkel and… Kleenex?
This morning I was awoken by my 4 year old – oh wait, he is now 5 (I am still in denial). Anyway, he woke me up miserably complaining of a stuffy nose and not feeling well.
Oh, the summer cold. I think back to where we were during these past few days of travel while this virus was silently incubating… lots of new playgrounds and a library, grocery store, restaurants. Plenty of opportunities to pick up a nasty little virus and lots of activity in between to mask those first sneezes.
I look around my hotel room and realize that neglecting to bring the “Get Well Soon” bag on this trip is going to haunt me. Normally, I would reach in, grab some Oscillo pellets and assure my son all would soon be well. Instead I must wait until the local stores open, drag my ill son to the store with me, and search for a store that carries my homeopathic favorite.
A word of caution as you pack for your summer trip – recognize that a summer cold is not only possible, it will be tougher to find rest amongst the busy summer fun planned. What traveler wants to rest when the sun and fun awaits?
For those viruses that sneak into your itinerary, be prepared with your “Get Well Soon” bag. What have you found to be beneficial for your family illnesses? Hand washing, drinking water, and good sleep will help the body attack the invading virus. A weak body will take longer to win and may succumb to secondary infection easier.
When preparing for your summer trip, remember to prepare the body for increased activity and travel. If dealing with illness on the road, a comfort item goes a long way.
May your summer travel be healthy, safe, and free from sniffles!
