Teething Comfort on Airplanes

by Anya Clowers, RN

February is Children’s Dental Health Month. What does that have to do with travel?

If you have ever been on an airplane with a miserable infant or toddler, you may have witnessed the miserable side of teething! I have always been curious if the changing pressure  experienced in flight has anything to do with the bad timing of these teething events. Whether an infant or a toddler, teething can happen “out of the blue”.

My advice to parents of young fliers is to pack a little “peace of mind” (teething products) in the carry-on bag to soothe irritated gums. This may provide some much needed comfort for the poor little ones who don’t understand the intense or nagging pain of teething. I really like Chewable Jewels – a teething product invented by a dentist who is also a mother! Non-toxic and convenient to gnaw on when traveling, this teething jewelry may provide much needed relief when teeth start pushing on those gums.
