Toddler Only Survivor of Plane Crash
This was posted on October 30, 2007. However, I am re-posting it today as I have added some new information.
A three year old girl was the only survivor of a private plane crash in Canada. She was found strapped into her car seat with debris all around her. The rescuers stated that she survived because she was in that car seat.
This brings up a great point. Car seats and aviation restraints should be used on all airplanes- commercial AND private.
Both the CARES harness and car seats can be used on private planes just as they are used on the big commercial aircraft, for EVERY passenger.
Even a short flight includes the most dangerous times of take off and landing and the chance one can encounter unexpected turbulence during the flight.

My son’s grandma is a pilot and flight instructor, and we have used both a car seat and the CARES harness on our flights in her plane.
Basic safety is the most important requirement for EVERY passenger on any airplane. This means every passenger- regardless of age.

You can read the full story of the 3 year old survivor here.
*There have been some nasty comments on message boards about her grandfather being irresponsible about flying with her when the weather was bad. Keep in mind that weather can change quickly and there may be many details that we do not know!
However, he did take the time and buckle her up – which essentially gave her the gift of life! May deepest sympathies to Kate and her family- May the Lord offer you His comfort and healing!
Below is an email that I received from Retired Flight Attendant and Child Safety Advocate, Jan Lohr. I encourage you to send a copy of this email to the people she lists at the bottom:

Surely this incident should justify mandating child seats. Or will the FAA follow the usual path of waiting for some deaths and THEN mandate? It makes absolutely no sense to have allowed this child restraint issue to be ignored when children under two years are at risk not only from plane accidents but the more deadly and unpredictable instances of turbulence. All passengers in the same cabin as a lap child are at risk in these circumstances since a child missile will do damage to whichever passenger she/he hits. That is why passengers must secure all baggage particularly laptop computers and yet small children are bouncing on their parents lap! Truly this is unconscionable and gives the FAA no credibility in safety. Please mandate child seats on planes!!
Please copy and send the toddler headline with a plea for child seats to the following:
