Stroller: Holiday Travel Packing List 2009

by Anya Clowers, RN

A stroller IS necessary when traveling – no matter what. The type of stroller needed depends on the type of travel planned and the age and number of children traveling. We chose to evaluate what stroller we reach for the most when traveling – whether across town or across the world. Three strollers are our favorite…

To be honest, we were unable to narrow our stroller selection down to less than three fantastic brands because we like these three stroller brands for various types of travel and various age children. We have chosen the reliable and quality made strollers of Maclaren, Joovy, and Trends for Kids!

Maclaren

-We love the Maclaren Quest for a lightweight, super slim, and ultra reliable stroller for kids up to 55lbs. Maclaren strollers have been on my favorite list for over five years. In 2009, we selected the Maclaren Techno XLR as our stroller of choice for our big international trip. These two strollers have proven to be fantastic investments for our traveling family! Maclaren recently issued a voluntary recall on all umbrella strollers due to injury potential for little fingers (pinched in the hinge) when the stroller is folded closed. However, with the free hinge cover provided to all Maclaren stroller owners (call 1-877- 688-2326 to request the free hinge covers), the dangerous hinge is easily covered and the stroller is safe to use.

Joovy Caboose Ultralight

-The Joovy Caboose Ultralight is a super lightweight stand-on Tandem stroller perfect when traveling with multiple kids. The Ultralight Caboose offers an option to stand or sit for the older child in back while the front offers a seat (with harness restraint) for the second child or an option to secure an infant car seat.

My 5 year old son actually chooses to take this stroller on some occasions when he is the only one in the stroller. The Joovy Caboose Ultralight has actually been a great source of entertainment as he pretends the stroller is a train (and stands holding on as he “toots the horn”), pretends to be a garbageman using the bottom basket for storing garbage, standing then sitting then standing again or opening and closing the large canopy and pretending he is in a fort- he is kept busy! When his younger cousin rides along, they both are happy and my sister and I enjoy our trip.

Trends for Kids

-Recently discovered and new to America, we want to warmly welcome the German-Engineered Trends for Kids brand of strollers. Built to last, the Trends for Kids Buggster S has proven to be a fantastic stroller for comfort, accessories, and quality!

This quality stroller offers great accessories to protect a child from the elements of sun, wind, rain, and even pesty mosquitoes! The breathable cushion means my son is more comfortable.  My son stands taller than most 5 year olds, so it means a lot to me that he also sits comfortably in this stroller. I like the little things about this stroller – like the cover folding and fitting in the bottom basket!
