Travel Scale: Checked Luggage Restrictions

by Anya Clowers, RN

Imagine this…you’ve just had an amazing family vacation, and you’re on your way home. Since most airlines are now charging for checked luggage, you’ve packed wisely, managing to get everything (including those neat souvenirs and memories of your trip) into 1 checked suitcase and the rest of your belongings are dispersed among each family member’s carry-on luggage. You arrive at the airport and drag your suitcase to the ticket counter for check-in. You lift your suitcase onto the scale, and cringe as you watch the digital weight appear…your suitcase is over the acceptable airline luggage weight limit!

Now what? Well, you have 2 options: You can frantically try to repack – take out the “extra weight” and move those items into someone’s carry-on while everyone in line behind you glares in your direction. OR – you can pay the overweight baggage fee.

Now imagine knowing exactly how much your luggage weighs before even leaving for the airport. The Balanzza Ergo Digital Luggage Scale offers travelers peace of mind when it comes to knowing the weight of their luggage before arriving at the airport luggage scale.

Scale

This lightweight portable scale is easy to hold with one or two hands, and it’s easy to use. Simply connect the scale to the handle on your luggage, turn the scale on, wait for the beep, and read the weight of your luggage. Weight can be read in pounds or kilograms. The scale is compact in size and won’t take up much space in your luggage.

I have been using this as we pack for Europe. Normally, I don’t check luggage. But for this 3 week trip for 3 people in 2 different climates, I am checking one bag. My 4 year old son LOVES this scale. Amazingly, stuff can add up quickly! We actually got up to 43lbs.! It was great to see that in the comfort of my home. Not a big deal to unpack stuff when nobody is waiting.

This little scale is so small that it fits easily into your luggage for the trip home. Plus, it’s fun for kids to go around the house learning how much things weigh!

Don’t take a chance with the frustration and embarrassment of overweight luggage. Know your limits and feel confident when approaching the ticket counter!

UPDATE: I had hoped to post this review before our trip – but now I can report back on taking this scale with us. I took it along knowing that my son also loved to play with this – so as a multi-functional product, it was packed. I cannot tell you how many times I was so glad that I had this along! We flew on 4 different days of our vacation. Most of these flights were within Europe on airlines that tend to be stricter with luggage restrictions.

On each of those 4 days, I went to the ticket counter without any stress about overweight luggage. By the end of the trip, our bags were heavy and because I had the scale, I was able to balance the weight among the bags and avoid overweight fees! The scale is easy to pack, fun for kids to play with as they weigh various objects, and a stress reliever when it comes to packing.
