Tonight I learned another lesson. Don’t procrastinate on safety issues. I had great intentions to order a new identification tag for my son’s shoes and got distracted. I found one that is engraved instead of just written on (pen tends to wear off with preschooler activity – mud, water, etc.)
I even wrote my review of these clever tags (RoadID)- designed and created for runners and athletes. Anyway, more on my review later…
Tonight I thought my son and husband were in the backyard. They weren’t – my son’s bike was gone, but they were nowhere around our neighborhood. I noticed my husband’s wallet, cell phone, and keys were in our house. I drove around for 40 minutes – worried.
I began to think – what if something happened to my husband? My son had no identification – and neither did my husband! It was hot out – and I knew my husband probably didn’t grab a bottle of water on the way out. I drove the neighborhoods as it was getting dark.
Finally, as I was about to really worry, I noticed a little bike in the distance. My husband had gone for a run and my son was pedaling along next to him. All was fine tonight…but…
I have reason to be concerned. Two years ago, my neighbor and friend was out for a walk on our quiet street. The driver of a pick up truck was distracted while driving and talking on his cell phone. He drove up onto the curb – and instantly killed my beautiful, 39 year old neighbor – who also was the mother of my son’s 2 year old friend.
Things do happen. Wear ID.
