Why I Travel with an iPhone: Maps

by Anya Clowers, RN

At first I thought I would have to write about my iphone under the “nothing to do with travel – just a personal addiction” category. However, then I recently traveled to Las Vegas for the ABC Kids Show – and got lost on my drive looking for a grocery store near the time share I was staying in.

Bingo! The iPhone literally found ME through the map option – one press of a button and the nearest Whole Foods Markets were plotted on the map with my location blinking in blue. I then just hit “directions” and I was on my way.

This past weekend I was in Reno (funny – both places with casinos – and neither time did I gamble!)
Anyway, I was going to the local Starbucks to work while my husband and son visited my father-in-law at his hotel. I put my blinker on to turn into the parking lot only to notice a very obviously intoxicated or drugged man – wandering the parking lot talking to himself.

WELL – not something I wanted to deal with on this particular Sunday morning. So I simply pulled over, picked up my lovely iPhone and searched for the next nearest Starbucks – this was soo simple and fast.

Before I knew it, I was at another Starbucks – this one was actually MUCH closer to the hotel (should have looked in the first place).

So my iPhone was a safety line for me! :) I was able to avoid a potentially yucky situation and ended up in a better location.

That is when I realized how powerful the iPhone as a resource when traveling!! How many times do you wonder where the nearest store, gas station, etc. is and have to drive around looking for it?

The iPhone is awesome – and this is only one aspect of one feature…. it really is like having an assistant or computer with you at all times.

Look for more updates about the features I love on my iPhone. This phone is not just for techies…nerds…geeks… MacAddicts – although I may appear to be all of those! I never understood the weird Mac lovers – how could you be so obsessed about a computer?

Well – I understand – and am now hopelessly a self-proclaimed Mac Addict.
