| TRANSPORTING KIDS |
- Should we bring the stroller? Yes. Yes. Yes. find out why
- Is it really necessary to purchase an airplane seat for my infant?
Would you drive 200+mph (runway speed) down a deserted street holding your child in your lap? Our arms are not able to offer protection. Little passengers are the first to fly through the air and most likely to suffer fatal injuries. Read more about the lap child policy.
- Which car seat travels best?
I have found the narrow car seats fit best in airplane seats. I like to use the Radian when traveling since it folds in half and can be worn as a backpack. However, I really like Britax carseats for everyday use and have flown with them as well without incident. I use the Traveling Toddler or Go-Go Babyz for transporting the car seat through the airport. My preference is to use the CARES harness in flight.
- Is the CARES harness comfortable and will my child sleep when using it?
The CARES harness is the most comfortable option for my son. His legs don't dangle. Instead he can pull his legs up onto the seat, stretch them out or curl them up. Kids tend to like to move around. The CARES harness gives him enough room to change positions while keeping him safe. He sleeps most comfortably when I use the PlaneComfort pillow for him to lean against.
- What carrier holds heavier kids?
A great carrier for carrying heavier kids is the ERGObaby In fact, it's great for infants too! I was able to carry my 30 lb. preschooler around London and Vienna without back strain! The carrier is rated to 40lbs., yet can be folded up and stored in luggage or the bottom of a stroller.
- Why bring a carrier and a stroller?
Although a stroller is easiest to carry a child for long periods, there are times that a stroller is out of the question. A good carrier is essential to prevent your arms and back from strain with tension headaches and pain as a result. The combination of stroller and carrier allows multiple children to be carried, the option to alternate modes of transport to fit activity, and increased flexibility for the family.
- What makes your recommended carrier so great?
- When my child sits in the ERGObaby carrier, his legs are at a 90 degree angle - this is the most comfortable position for the child and best for his little body for long periods (not being suspended by the crotch is a good thing!)
- When my son fell asleep, his head did not drop back and roll around. Instead the hood was supportive and kept the sun out of his eyes. On cold days, this hood was a wind blocker. Easy to apply, or remove and tuck away, the hood is a great feature of the ERGObaby carrier!
